A field trip

My break out story :) So Boston has been incredibly warm and today was a wonderful first day of spring! It was 70 out and sunny today. The hubby brought me up a delicious coconut ice coffee and the doctor offered to let me out on a wheelchair excursion..... oh boy. She was very clear on the rules: I was allowed to go to the 6th floor where there is an outdoor garden for an hour with my hubby. Well, I am not a fan of the outdoor garden since that is where we went on the day we induced labor with Vincent. So I was all set with going to the 6th floor. The nurse told me I could go outside to the first floor - just not to stay out too long. Since she didn't re-iterate the rules..... I was bad :p

I will say first off that my BPs have been very good so I wasn't worried about spiking. The hubby and I went down to the lobby and the doors I planned on being wheeled out were locked. There went my nice sitting area idea. So we improvised. Hubby wheeled me right out the front door and I ditched my wheelchair in front of the hospital. We then took a lovely 15 minute stroll to some benches in the sun on the other side of the hospital - down near my lab actually. We sat in the sun drinking ice coffee and chatting for over an hour - it was so nice to feel normal! Then, since the hospital has me on a wonderful low-fat / low-carb diet and I can;t eat a damn thing, we went to my favorite wrap place when I am working. Yep, it was another 15 minute walk :) I got a delicious steak and cheese wrap with mushrooms, onions and peppers... and a bag of doritos :) We sat outside again and ate. Then I went back and found a wheelchair and returned to my room.

Grand total time in the beautiful sun - 2 hours!! The nurse did tease me for being gone so long - but my blood glucose level was a lovely 86 1 hour after my splurge (needs to be below 140) and my BP was only 130/80 (granted I asked the tech to come back after she finished everyone else to give me a half hour on my left side before getting my BP taken! :p)

It was funny though because working at the hospital, it turns out all the places I go are places the rest of the hospital staff go! I never thought of that and kept checking over my should at the wrap place and when I was outside to make sure my nurses didn't walk by!

The only damage I can tell is my pelvis HURTS. I walked for a grand total of about 45 minutes over 2 hours. Now, everytime I move pain radiates up my pelvis - whoops. Also, I am spilling some more protein. I went from +2 to a +3, but my doctors have already told me that even of my protein is in severe pre-e range, they do not induce unless there are signs of kidney damage evident in the blood work. So dipping higher tonight = no big deal.

Honestly, after being couped up in this room for 27 days, I needed to go on a little field trip to feel normal. Sipping ice coffee with my hubby in the sun joking around about what sports we will make little boy try (soccer, baseball and bowling if you were wondering :p ) felt so great. Now as long as no one saw me walking around out there......

Things are going good. Hopefully I will hold on 2 more weeks and be induced at 37 weeks. Honestly, it is all good now. Whenever little boy needs to come will be fine by me. I have made it so much farther than I ever thought possible. The rest is just icing on the cake for me now..... mmmmm cake.

You know what I am eating right when I get home and lose the GD/ low-fat diet? A nice hawaiian pizza and some cupcakes! I plan on making myself ill from sugar and fat! Yum!

  3. Isn't it amazing the difference a little fresh air and sunshine can make????!!!! I was wondering about you the other day - I had read your post about possibly delivering (I think last Friday) and I hadn't seen anything since. I was wondering if I missed something. I am glad that you are still hanging in there - every day helps! Glad you are still sane - thinking of you!
